Tiny Turtle
Posted by Barbara (Florida, United States) on 24 August 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.
This young turtle would easily fit in the palm of your hand.
I had been in an area where one of the largest alligators in this park is often seen. I had spotted him sliding backwards into the water some distance away.
It is eery to see as I listen to the rather loud grunts of the large population of frogs among the lilly pads.
I was just walking away when I looked down and spotted this tiny turtle sunning himself on the lilly pad. I never get to see turtles this small.
Nothing here to show scale, the lilly pad is large so it is not a good reference.
What I enjoy most is being among nature, be able to photograph wildlife without disturbing them. This turtle was looking at me for the shot but turned his head, stuck both rear legs out and closed his eyes for a siesta.
Mission accomplished.
I had no control over the intense sunlight on the lilly pad. I had also considered some cropping. I welcome your suggestions.
It has been impossible for me to visit or reply as I would like to. Although, I have found the time I say that is when I catch up the most. Please realize I appreciate your visit and comments. Thank you.
