First Ladybug For Judy

Posted by Barbara (Florida, United States) on 18 April 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

For some time I've been wanting to capture a ladybug close up like this.

So as a first macro of a ladybug, what better way to show appreciation for knowing someone like you.
It may not be the best out there, but it is my first, just for you, Judy

Interesting that this was already posted ahead from a few days ago.

Oh, Barb, how wonderful, and thank you so very much!
I spotted this in the Community page's thumbnails before I even saw whose it was.
I'd like to add this to a collection I have on WS but only w/your permission and obviously I'd give you credit.
xx

@Judy: Your comment about spotting this on the community page first, brought a smile.
I'd be honored that you like it well enough to add it to WS.
There was a slight wind that day, enough I had to pause in between shots hoping to get one still enough.
This (your) Ladybug was on the milkweed plant I have in a large pot on the side of my house. A plant the butterfiles love. Enjoy your ladybug!

Last year in the UK, we had a minor plague of ladybugs and they were gathered on certain colors by the handful . . amazing to see how many variations of color and markings there are in the 'common' bug.

@Ronnie 2¢: Very interesting comment on how color attracted the bugs. I know in some farm areas ladybugs have been released to control a type of amphid that can destroy crops. Eventually the ladybug population was out of control. Veronelle added a very useful link to see the many variations. Thank you, Ronnie for a great comment.

Barb, this is a great start but would love to see the exif . ;-)
Keep up the good work, it's great seeing you post macro.

@dang: What a pleasant surprise, and of all images you see this one that I am not entirely pleased with. My self critic is in overdrive. The exif data is somewhat intimidating for me, it opens discussion for me that I am not knowledgeable enough to respond to. Of course I am always open to learning, unfortunately the time is still an obstacle. I really appreciate you stopping by to comment. Thanks
