Kingfish from Menlo Park, United StatesI work in planning for large construction projects, so I can really identify with this photo. Dwellings are interesting when they're 'half baked', because you can see into peoples' personal space before they even live there. Love the three bright lights from the crane overhead. 16 Oct 2008 6:05am @Kingfish: Thanks for the nice comment Kingfish. I too find it interesting to see those "peoples space" and how it develops into a finished dwelling. Ian Bramham from Manchester, United KingdomA really great photo Barbara!....I love the sparkle from the lights that you've achieved with the high f stop. 16 Oct 2008 7:03am Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesWell shot, but I'm with you, Barb ... too large for the area, and they call it, "progress". 16 Oct 2008 10:16am Rob from Mount Joy, United StatesGreat capture. Hopefully it gets completed with all of the lending issues as of late and it doesn't sit half completed! 16 Oct 2008 11:52am Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesSad statement on greed and poor planning. It's a nice building, but the scale and probably the placement takes away from the whole area. That same thing has happened to Panama City up in the Panhandle. Now you can drive along Front Beach Rd. and feel as if you are in a canyon of condo hi-rise walls. You can't see the Gulf from the road. Sometimes you can hardly see the sunshine. 16 Oct 2008 12:01pm Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaIt is a shame, however I have to say Barb, you're doing a lot of good for your hometown, 'cause man, this one gorgeous photo of it ;) 16 Oct 2008 1:35pm @Lorraine: Thank you so much Lorraine for an inspiring comment. Arash from Dubai, United Arab Emiratesnice night shot, I like that three projector. 16 Oct 2008 3:10pm Nill@ from County Östergötland, SwedenHi. 16 Oct 2008 3:49pm Rags from Plano, United StatesProgress sometimes comes with casualties. I feel sorry for the families that have been driven away from earning a living via their stores after being bought off by hotels like this. 16 Oct 2008 4:58pm @Rags: It has been going on for the last few years. Those small places have been disappearing. But after years of running a small place the buy out is usually very profitable for them. Rabbit from Richmond, United StatesThe star filter is proving to be very very cool! 16 Oct 2008 10:06pm Stunner from Kingston, Jamaicathat is the price of development. Nicely taken shot. 17 Oct 2008 1:02am JJ from Jersey City, United StatesI guess its a sign of the times, all these huge complexes, love the lighting and the starbursts in this very cool 17 Oct 2008 2:20am @JJ: Thank you JJ, I appreciate your comment. Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesIt does look huge. Like something you would see in a very large resort city. It's a shame to see the charm and character of a place change like that. The lights above it almost look like UFO's. 17 Oct 2008 4:17am Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesI'm so sorry to see this 'progress' Barbara. I still seek out the Mom & Pop places. The lights above has this looking like, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind II." 17 Oct 2008 4:17am dang from Atlanta, United StatesLovely star pattern from stopping down, Barb. The old saying "Build it, and they will come" enters my mind when seeing your comment. I agree, the days of "Mom & Pop" places are going the wayside and it's not something I care for. When I first began shooting, I could go out at night and photograph anything around Atlanta. But now, it's too large and dangerous. Places such as Wally & McD's are taking over the world, and local flavor is being lost. Seems people everywhere are losing their "roots", and it's a shame, though there's little we can do about it. 4 Dec 2008 1:35pm |
