I recall seeing these insects in a photo and that they give a nasty bite, but don't recall their name. If anyone knows it would be a great help. Update: I did some searching, this insect is a "True Bug" order of Hemiptera. There are about 4500 variations of true bugs. Finding a specific name will take more searching. I have never seen them around here until today when I went to check the bird seed in my new feeder. They were all over the seed, mostly staying together in a group. As I was taking photos just watching them made me begin to itch. Then going through the photos I took made me itch. Don't tell me... you have an itch too!
This new feeder I made on the pottery wheel, what you see here is part of a leaf cut out I applied to the rim of a flat plate like piece and hangs by chains.
Une magnifique photo macro.

Wow! the lighting is fantastic, they look like they are having fun exploring this new world. A brilliant close up. Sorry I can't help with a name.

@MaryB: Your comment is appreciated, thank you. I did know the name at one time. Eventually I will find it.

@Lorraine: Thank you Lorraine, Bug A Boo is like Thing A Majig. It works.
The power of suggestion, I scratched my arm reading this. With those legs they look like they can bite and run.

@JoeB: Power of suggestion works more than we realize. Thank you for viewing and commenting.
Really intriguing shot. Love the idea of a pottery bird feeder - so sad you are so far away - would buy one from you!

@dobbino: Very inspiring and kind comment. Thank you very much.
They wouldn't happen to be fire ants, would they? I recall running into many of those when I would visit Florida. Regardless, it is a nice detailed capture. I love the ants where only their silhouettes exist.

@Steven: Believe me I know what fire ants are, they introduced themselves when I moved to Florida. They are not kind. These resemble ants with long legs and antenna but they are something else. We can refer to them as ants until I find out. Thank you for you nice comment.
Nice capture!Good job!

Fascinating little bug ... <scratch, scratch> ... and I love the sounds of your bird feeder. I love the fact that you're making practical and usable pieces; I'm sure it's lovely!
