Her name is Katie, and I am her person. She really is a wonderful cat. The story is that a few years ago I lost my cat of 16 years. Within a month or so Katie showed up in the butterfly garden where Nicta my other cat is. It was so eery that this cat should sit and rest there. Katie kept hanging around in the yard. I really was not wanting another cat, at least not yet. Time passed, Katie was fed, and fed well. She had a bright pink collar on that looked old and worn, size enough for a small dog. I made friends with her and removed it. She was happy about that. All 4 paws were declawed, a terrible thing. Then a trip to the vet for her shots. Afterall I was not going to have this cat here without her being healthy. She was so big, I thought something was wrong with her, but the vet said she is just fat. 20 lbs is a lot of cat. Then I set up home for her in the garage, with carpet, a large and expensive floor fan (this is hot Florida) good food and water dishes, and a fluffy pet bed. More time passed, a ceiling fan was installed in the garage, Katie got baths and gourmet cat food. Oh yes, she wanted in the house all the way but then I would be giving into having another cat. Also, I have my Quaker parrot and not sure how they would take to each other. The bird was buddies with my other cat but Katie had been out there hunting for her meals. My bird could be a tasty treat. You can see Quaker here:

I let Katie inside of the house a little at a time, she made herself right at home, of course she is a cat! Now after considerable time Katie is the cat of this house and without a doubt never leaving. And there is no way to give her up now. She is a sweetheart. Quaker the parrot and Katie seem to like each other and there is no threat, but I still keep a watchful eye.
Katie will never know discomfort here.
If this isn't Love, I don't know what is. And I totally agree, removing claws is barbaric....my three cats will never be declawed and I have the scars to prove it lol

@Lorraine: Thank you Lorraine. Katie is so loveable and I can tell she adores me and thanks me for letting her stay. So often I see her paws, the way she walks and how over weight she is and cannot get over who would consider such a thing and what vet would remove claws from all 4 feet. My own vet inspected her feet and said the claw removal was done poorly. On some toes they took the first two digits, normally they remove only one. I can't imagine how painful it must have been for Katie. She will find no discomfort living here. Will we ever see your precious cats?
Beautiful photo - and very sad story. I must be living a very sheltered life - this is the first time I have heard of cats being declawed, and it's horrible. Thank you for giving her your love.

@dobbino: I sincerely appreciate your comment. Sad but true, declawing really does happen. Some who decide they want a cat but do not want their furniture scratched or possibly scratch their owner will have the front paws declawed. Leaving the rear claws gives a cat a chance to defend themselves, or climb away from their attacker. Most Veterinarians will not declaw the rear paws, many won't declaw at all because it is cruel. Imagine taking the tips of your finger off down to the first joint. That is basically how declawing is done. Katie has learned to have an attitude that can scare off many intruders. But she cannot climb a tree. I have seen her fall down the side of the bed because she cannot leap that high with her weight and no claws to grasp and pull herself up. Her weight is due to her feet hurting. I see her limp sometimes. It breaks my heart. I will give her kindness and love but most of all I thank Katie for giving me her trust and love. Thank you.
Oh, Barb, your loving heart comes through so loud & clear! Lovely Katie wiggled her way into your yard, the garage, the house AND your heart! She is properly titled in this shot and I can almost here the purrrr......rrrrrr

@Judy: Very touching comment, thank you Judy. You are absolutely right. And I think Katie had a plan.
Well she deserves to be a Queen, with such a regal look - you can almost hear her saying 'We are not amused'. What a wonderful story Barbara. In the UK declawing is banned so we have to keep our cats with all their hooks & barbs! Long may it be that way. I'll post my 3 up soon, I have two British Shorthairs & a Selkirk Rex & I have 3 dogs too!

@ChristineW: Thank you Christine. I am very happy to hear declawing is banned, as it should be here. Nails can be clipped. Looking forward to seeing all of yours even the dogs.

What gorgeous cat portraits... I love cats... though right now I can't have one... hubby is allergic... had I known before we got married... would it be cat or hubby... hehehehe... one day I will get a cat again... I just had to send mine other to heaven before coming to this country (from Australia) as he was 18 and had arthritis... I do miss having a cat... so if you ever need to part with one of yours... Take care
