Round and Around I Go!Posted by Barbara (Florida, United States) on 7 February 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio. Welcome to downtown Clearwater, Florida. This is the (fairly) new Memorial Causeway bridge that crosses over the intercoastal waterway onto Clearwater Beach. This round about walkway leads from the ground up to the bridge. There were alot of issues with this bridge while it was being built. Today the sky and water with the white structure was ideal for photos.

Jrask from Pasadena, United StatesI really enjoy this photo...it's a peaceful shot of a structure that normally connotes traffic and general mayhem :) 7 Feb 2008 5:51am @Jrask: Very nice comment, I appreciate it. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanVery windy there, as I can see from the shot! These causeways and the modern arching bridges are very good subjects for photos, the lines offer many possibilities of abstracts.I like here the contrast of white and blue and the curving superposed lines. 7 Feb 2008 5:57am @bill: My first thought. Thanks Bill. @Teresa Durães: Thank you. Nancy Batlemento from Bloomfield Hills, United StatesI can smell the ocean from here as I look out at the gray sky and gorgeous snow dusted branches here in Michigan. What a world this is. That photo makes me want to drive to Clearwater right now. Everything you do Barb is well thought out and done with perfection. Nancy in the mitten. 7 Feb 2008 12:55pm @Nancy Batlemento: Your comment is very kind. We may have some rain by the time you arrive. (kidding, or maybe not) Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaLOL love it! Many many years ago my sister and I went to Clearwater, really enjoyed my time there ;) 7 Feb 2008 3:37pm @Lorraine: Thank you Lorraine. I must say even if you were here just a few years ago there has been many changes. Jen from Alpharetta, United StatesGreat lines and curves and the light on the stark white bridge is just perfect. 7 Feb 2008 3:44pm @Jen: Thank you. Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesBeautiful composition and colors. I'm happy to see that the city fathers put a lot of landscaping into this project. Now the causeway and walkway look more blended than standouts. 7 Feb 2008 4:40pm @Steven: A lot of money went into this too. It does have nice eye appeal. Actually those driving over the bridge do not even see this walkway. I recently became aware of it while going over the bridge and noticed someone walking from there. Thank you Steven, I appreciate your comment. @Eleftheria, 9 years old,: I am glad you like it. Thank you Eleftheria. @yasuri: Thank you very much. Frankie from Boxmeer, NetherlandsBeautiful composition. The lines of the (walk)ways are contrasting beautifully with the blue sky and sea. 7 Feb 2008 11:10pm @Viewfinder: Thank you VF. @Garibaldi: Thank you, very nice comment. @alla: It does appear "dizzy". Only the structure in background is for vehicles. The foreground is strictly for acess by foot. Many people use the bridge for walking and bicycling over to the beach area. Photographs by M.E. from Encino, United StatesI like the geometric shapes and colors... was one of the issue is the fact that the bridge blocks the view? it must have been windy, there's movement on your trees. 8 Feb 2008 7:15pm @Photographs by M.E.: Thank you M.E. Blocking the view might be part of it. But at this angle I am lower than the roadway of the approach of the bridge. Originally the (old draw) bridge ran straight east and west from the main road through downtown Clearwater. That bridge was removed making the road dead end at the water with the new bridge angling to the south taking traffic an entirely new route and closer to the condominium complex at about the 3rd or 4th floor level. It also completely stopped any tourist traffic passing by store fronts in downtown Clearwater. When the bridge was very near completion a few of the supports actually sunk several inches, something near 12 inches. Some of those supports had to be imploded and reconstructed. This of course gave taxpayers a big concern of who would pay for all of this. Apparently some form of agreement was made with the contractor of the bridge. So there were many issues over this bridge. Illuci from Hurdegaryp, NetherlandsThe palms are a fine decoration to this architectural sculpture! Great shot! 11 Feb 2008 7:53am |
