I took this on December 27, 2007 at a local botanical gardens. There were many butterflies and bees around going from flower to flower. While it is not unusual to see during warmer weather this time of year, they could perish in the extreme blast of cold weather that has moved into the state of Florida. Temperatures dropped last night but tonight they predict it to be freezing.

Ohhhhhhhh, what a great capture, but you're right, Barb, the FREEZE that's upon us now may bring their demise. ... So sad!

@Japanalia: The heat is on that is how cold it is here. Born and raised in the north it should be easy for a short time at least.
That's beautiful, very much needed for my cold, cold, minus 30 body :)

@Lorraine: I wish I could take more but it turned very cold for here. Truthfully I have been wishing to take photos of snow.
Beautiful Barbara! Lets hope last night's freeze didn't get them!

@Wolfgang Prigge: Thank you Wolfgang. I did take a look at your beautiful Monarch. It is a wonderful macro shot on pink flowers. They are a wonderful part of nature. I wanted to comment direct on the photo but did not see the option.
Fantastic. Beautiful colours. A happy new year to you.

@Laurie: Thank you Laurie.
Beautiful butterfly! I'm up near Atlanta and it's freezing here too...I moved south to get away from this nonsense! Hope it warms up there soon!

@Jen: Thanks Jen. I like it cool but one day is enough at these low temps.
Nice going, Barb. I'm amazed you guys have any left, but it's been a bad year here with the drought. And you're right, this freeze is going to hit hard. Terrible, not only for insects, but citrus production too. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys, and hope it's over quick without much loss. I'd sure miss my Florida OJ in the mornings... Br-r-r-r from Atlanta!

@Dang: Thanks Tom. There were several two days after Christmas. I am sure they did not get through last nights freeze. It is expected to warm up then some insects should reappear soon. This one fluttered continuously, so there is slight movement. As for the OJ, I have a tree full of sweet oranges. Not sure how they are today, frozen OJ perhaps.
Thanks for pointing out the problem with the URL. Guess I've got it right this time.
