The stray who decided to stay. When she arrived I was stunned to see all 4 of her paws had been declawed. What vet would perform such mutilation to an animal. Some of her toes appear mangled or disfigured, at times she walks as if her feet ache. Otherwise she is healthy and has set her rules. You can view more of Katie here where I have other albums. http://pets.webshots.com/album/561028083LLIcym 34
Gorgeous. She looks so well looked after and contented now. I am happy she found you! Sometime back I was adopted by an old male cat I called Jacky. He too had been abused. I loved that ol' cat. It was as if he needed to show me his gratitude all the time. I was so sad when he finally died.

@Helen: Bonding with a pet can be deep, the wound can be deeper when they go. Katie is a sweet cat and has filled part of the void of losing my black cat Nicta a few years ago. He was part of my life for 16 years. I told myself I would never have another cat. Katie showed up only a few weeks later, there was no denying her. At times I wonder if Nicta the angel sent her. They are special indeed. I appreciate you sharing your story of Jacky. Thank you.
Every time I hear this, I just cannot believe that it is allowed in the US to declaw. In Europe it is strictly forbidden. I am glad she found you and can now just enjoy life. I had a Onyx also a black cat for 18 years. When he left us he left a huge void and we still think dearly about him. Enjoy your itme with Katie ;) http://manuela.aminus3.com/image/2006-09-04.html

@Manuela Photography: I have been forever against declawing. It really is mutilation to an animal. If the animal is not perfect enough for a person to have it then Don't Have It! The thought stirs my emotions. Pet can be just as special as people in our lives. Thank you for sharing your story about Onyx and the link. I can see by his photo he left a special paw print on your heart. Thank you.
Look at those gorgeous eyes. How piercing. I'm sorry to hear about that poor girls feet.

Wonderful portrait, full of love. And your words speak for a good cause. Being one that was used to dogs, I've wondered the effect on many breeds having their tails & ears clipped. But it doesn't seem to affect them the same as declawing. I can understand someone not wanting them to claw furniture, but agree it's a horrid practice, leaving them unable to defend themselves. There's so much we do these days needing reconsideration, but people take the easy way. Thanks for sharing your story, maybe someone will stop and think. Good work!

@Dang: Thank you Dang. I have had many dogs over the years but eventually became more of a cat person. As for declawing there are other ways to prevent damage to furniture. I find declawing appalling even more so now after I see how it has damaged Katie's feet. It is like taking the tips of your fingers off down to the first joint. Literally. I feel if you are so concerned about your belongings to mutilate an animal then you should not have one. Get a photo (like this one) and hang it on the wall for a pet. Thanks for understanding.
They were worshipped once in Egypt and other far off places...and they havn't forgotten it! This shot simply confirms that. I hope that she lives a long life and brings you much happiness. (give her a pat from far off Australia).

@Michael: You could not have said it better. Ms. Katie, once a stray and picked my house has realized her position here, Queen! True they were once worshipped in ancient times, but I doubt they ever had the comfortable life they have now. Thank you for your comment.
